Competition Winner!

Thanks to the folks over at Digital Photography School for choosing me as 2nd place winner of their photography tip contest.

I wrote an article about getting over trying to learn the technical side of photography from a computer and going out and putting things into practice instead.

Head on over to DPS to give it a read here!

Tim, first time visiting your blog. Read about you on DPS and I have a question for you from your post on DPS:-

Tim I have a question with regards to photo #2. Where do you focus when you have two subjects on either side to ensure both look sharp and crisp in the photo? Sometimes, I have a problem with this kind of composition where only one appears to be in focus.

Mei Teng,

I focused on the man on the right. The trick is to either use a wider aperture (f/3.5 or lower (4, 5.6, etc.) or to put more distance between you and your subject. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask

Tim, thanks for the tips and I appreciate that. I read in Scott Kelby's book that f/11 works well for portraits. Not really sure about that but I guess I must go out and shoot to see the results myself.

You have a great blog here! :)
